Omeshi

Omeshi is high-class silk fabrics. This was originally gift for 11th general, Ienari Tokugawa. He was so pleased to wear that, then it was named Omeshi. (Japanese term of respect for wear, “Omeshi-ni-naru’’) Omeshi is made in Kyoto, Niigata and Yamagata. There is one kind of Omeshi, called Nuitori-omeshi looks like embroidery.

Making process

It is used raw silk that tightly twined and dyed before weaving. Using two strings twisted different way for the weft when they are woven, sibo (rough surface of cloths) is appeared by hand-washing in hot water to make release twine. It is high technique to make this sibo.
