Chirimen

Chirimen is one of the white textiles of silk. It has rough feeling for touching, but is actually fine-textured. This peculiar fabric is called Sibo. There are many kinds, but with a big category, there are plain Chirimen and Mon-chirimen, weaving patterns. Raw silk is used for the warp and raw silk that is tightly twisted for the woof.

 

Solid color chirimen

Representative soild color chirimen is hitokoshi-chirimen of small shibo. Nowadays it is often used micoshi-chirimen of small shibo which is improved as Shrink- resistant.
In addition, there are oni-shibo-chirimen and kodai-chirimen of big shibo

Mon chirimen

Major producing district

Famous place for producing Chirimen is Tango, Kyoto as Tango-chirimen and Nagahama, Shiga as Hama-chirimen.
